The Baltimore building where Maryland state schools Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick has worked for 14 years is now named in her honor.

The Maryland Board of Public Works voted unanimously last week to change the name of the building housing the state education department to the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building. She has been the state superintendent of schools for 14 years.

The state board of education suggested the name change to the public-works board, whose members are the state’s governor, comptroller, and treasurer.

“Naming the headquarters after [Ms. Grasmick] is a most fitting and lasting tribute to this wonderful educator,” Comptroller William Donald Schaefer said in a statement. He was Maryland’s governor when the state board first appointed Ms. Grasmick to the post in 1991.
