Technology and Learning Awards

Technology and Learning, a San Bruno, Calif.-based magazine from the Technology and Learning Network, a group of media organizations that provides information and resources on technology trends in education, has awarded the 2007 Awards of Excellence’s Legacy Award to 21 software companies.

Technology and Learning created the Awards of Excellence’s Legacy Award program in 2004 to honor companies that created easy-to-use software and Web programs to assist educators. The winners of the Awards of Excellence Program’s Legacy Award will be featured in Technology and Learning, on www.techlearning.com, and will receive a personalized certificate. The recipients are listed below:

Financial Literacy Awards

The Portland, Maine-based Institute for Financial Literacy, a nonprofit organization that develops financial literacy education programs and publishes The National Standards in Adult Financial Literacy Education, has selected the winners of the first annual 2007 Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Awards in eight categories. The individuals and organizations were selected based on their innovation in improving and supporting financial literacy education efforts. The categories and recipients include the following:

Institutional Book of the Year for Children in the Money Management Category: Money Savvy Kids, Susan Beacham at Money Savvy Generation, Lake Bluff, Ill.
Educator of the Year: Daniel James Enga of Auriton Solutions, Roseville, Minn.
Organization of the Year (Nonprofit): Networks Financial Institute at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Ind.
Organization of the Year (For profit): Marshall & Illsley Bank, Milwaukee, Wis.
Trade Book of the Year for Children in the Money Management Category: A Smart Girl’s Guide to Money: How to Make it, Save it, and Spend it, Nancy Holyoke at American Girl Publishing, New York City, N.Y.
Institutional Book of the Year for Children in the General Category: NEFE High School Financial Planning Program, National Endowment for Financial Education, Greenwood Village, Colo.
Published Research Paper of the Year: “Assessing Adult Financial Literacy and Why it Matters,” Networks Financial Institute at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Ind.
Visa Legislator of the Year: U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, D-Texas, Edinburg, Texas
