Technology Awards

Erik Gustafson, 11, from Cortland, N.Y., has been named Young Scientist of the Year by Silver Spring, Md.-based Discovery Communication, Inc., a nonfiction television and digital media company. Erik, the youngest student ever to win this title, was also awarded a $20,000 college scholarship. Katherine Strube, 14, of Glendale, Mo., earned second place, and Ambrose Soehn, 14, of Boulder, Colo., took third. Discovery Communication began offering these awards in 1999 to help boost achievement in science and math.

Education Software Awards

ComputED Learning Center, a San Diego, Calif.-based computer education company, has awarded its 12th Annual Education Software Review Awards to a variety of companies that produce programs and Web sites for educators and parents. The categories and award winners are:
