Five Vie for Urban Prize

The Los Angeles-based Broad Foundation announced the five finalists for its 2005 urban education prize last week. The school districts under consideration for the $1 million Broad Prize for Urban Education—to be awarded Sept. 20 to a district that has improved student achievement—are Aldine, Texas; Boston; New York City; Norfolk, Va.; and San Francisco.
