Two Morristown, N.J., teenagers are facing charges that they plotted to blow up their suburban high school during the Memorial Day weekend.
The boys, ages 15 and 17, learned through the Internet global computer network how to make the bomb, authorities said.
The plan was uncovered late last month by students who attend the 523-student Mountain Lakes High School. “Some schoolmates caught wind of the story and spoke of the plan to school officials,” who in turn went to police, said Sgt. Steve Ackerman of the Morris County sheriff’s office.
With parental consent, police searched the boys’ homes and discovered a pipe bomb and two M-80 firecrackers taped to a gasoline-filled bottle, Sergeant Ackerman said.
Chelsea Schools Chief Resigns: John Gawrys Jr., the superintendent of the Chelsea, Mass., schools, has announced he will resign this summer.
He is the fourth superintendent of the 4,200-student district since 1989, when Boston University took over the management of the system for a 10-year period.
Mr. Gawrys, who was appointed by the university in 1992, said at the time that he intended to stay in the job for the remainder of the university’s tenure.
But last month, saying he wanted to work more closely with the school committee and community than was possible under the university’s arrangement, Mr. Gawrys announced he is leaving to become the superintendent of the Westfield, Mass., schools.
