A story about computer scoring of essays (“States Testing Computer-Scored Essays,”) in the May 29, 2002, issue of Education Week gave an incorrect first name for the spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. She is Beth Gaydos.
A chart that accompanied a story on state spending on schools in the June 5 issue (print edition) listed Minnesota twice and omitted Michigan. Michigan spends $7,662 per pupil and ranks 12th in the nation, while Minnesota spends $7,051 and ranks 18th.
