A story on presidential transitions in the Nov. 22, 2000, issue of Education Week (“With Election in Doubt, Transition Must Wait,”) misstated part of the process for replacing political appointees. Such appointees in the U.S. Department of Education have traditionally been asked to offer letters of resignation after each presidential election. But no such request was made in 1996, when President Clinton was re-elected.
A Leadership column in the Nov. 15 issue (“In Touch Online,”) misidentified a district participating in an online project to link school boards and communities. It is the 17,000-student Blue Valley School District 229 in Overland Park, Kan.
