The House panel charged with reauthorizing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is planning to propose giving school officials more flexibility in disciplining special-education students, and draft legislation would allow officials to suspend or expel some such students without providing alternative educational services.
The staff-level “discussion draft” is likely to undergo changes before next month, when the House Economic and Educational Opportunities’ Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Youth, and Families is expected to take up the reauthorization. (See related story .)
