The popular children’s author Jon Scieszka will promote the importance of reading and literature as the first “national ambassador for young people’s literature,” the Library of Congress announced last week.
The former elementary and middle school teacher is the author of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.
Mr. Scieszka, a Caldecott medal winner, is also the founder of the Guys Read organization, which recommends books that might fuel boys’ interest in reading.
The ambassadorship is a two-year appointment and is co-sponsored by the Children’s Book Council and Foundation, a New York City-based organization that represents trade-book publishers.
