Making Mid-Course Corrections: School Restructuring in Maryland
The number of Maryland schools required by the No Child Left Behind Act to put in place restructuring programs has increased by 39 percent—from 46 to 64 schools—since 2004, says a study by the Center on Education Policy, a Washington-based nonprofit advocacy group for public education.
The report also found that 84 percent of the 69 schools required to do restructuring in the 2006-07 school year were in the 82,000-student Baltimore City public schools.
