The Lemelson-MIT Program has awarded 16 teams of high school students, teachers, and mentors with grants for invention projects through the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam initiative.
Each InvenTeam receives up to $10,00 in grant funding to invent a practical solution to a real-world problem they choose. Among other things, winning teams have chosen to invent an alternative energy refrigerator for northern climates, a freeze protection system for citrus crops, and a sensing guide cane for the visually impaired.
The InvenTeam initiative is designed to help get high school students excited about invention through hands-on learning and garner interest in STEM fields. Students, hailing from public and private high schools across the country, will showcase their inventions in June at EurekaFest, a multi-day celebration on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s campus.
