Strategic Grantmaking: Foundations and the School Privatization Movement
About 1,200 politically conservative foundations contributed more than $380 million in grants between 2002 and 2006 to nonprofit organizations and other national institutions that support school choice and school vouchers, concludes a report by the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, a Washington-based nonprofit that promotes transparency in philanthropy.
The report, part of a series of studies by the NCRP on grantmaking in politically conservative foundations, examined 132 organizations that support school choice. Of those, 104 had received foundation grants from politically conservative foundations over the past four years, the report says.
The study also found that the highest amount of giving occurred in 2003 and 2004, totaling over $100 million in both years.
