As states work to implement education reforms as part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, their progress may be halted or slowed in 2012 because of lingering financial difficulties, according to a new report by the Center on Education Policy in Washington.
Overall state funding for K-12 education in a large majority of states is expected to decline or remain flat, the report concludes, which means “the ambitious agenda of education reform attached to ARRA may hit a wall in 2012.”
The CEP based its conclusions on a 50-state (plus the District of Columbia) survey of state departments of education, conducted in October and November 2010.
