Roberto Padilla, superintendent of the Newburgh, N.Y., school district, is a former foster child and lost friends to murder while growing up in the school system he is now leading. He discusses his work in rooting out inequities that hold too many students back. Padilla was recognized as a 2019 Leader To Learn From for his leadership in districtwide equity.
