Not a full news round-up this week, but I thought I’d point you to a good story on summer school and nutrition. Specifically, I’d recommend Education Week‘s piece on participation in summer lunch programs this year.

Hard data aren’t out yet on the numbers of children served overall this summer, but Mary Ann Zehr’s story offers some interesting insights. For instance, she writes that at least one district she contacted served fewer lunches this summer because it cut spending on summer school overall. But, on the other hand, “economic pressures on families in other locations drove up participation in free or reduced-price meals programs elsewhere.”
