In the wake of a child-sex-abuse scandal involving a former assistant football coach, Pennsylvania State University will host a two-day conference in late October on preventing sexual abuse, the university said last week.
The conference will convene experts on child abuse and activists.
Professional boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and former kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart, who both suffered sexual abuse when they were younger, are scheduled to speak at the event.
On the first day, speakers will address the developmental impact of sexual abuse on young children, older children, and teenagers, according to the conference agenda. Intervention and prevention strategies will be discussed on day two.
Jerry Sandusky, who was a longtime assistant football coach at Penn State, was convicted in June of 45 counts of sexual abuse of 10 boys.
