Kim Stasny, one of the many superintendents on the front lines in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, died last week of braintumor-related complications.
The 55-year-old superintendent of the Oxford, Miss., schools, had led rehabilitation efforts in the Bay St. Louis-Waveland district after Hurricane Katrina destroyed four of the Mississippi district’s six schools in 2005. In February 2006, Education Week featured Ms. Stasny in a story titled “The New Normal.”
Ms. Stasny joined the Bay St. Louis-Waveland district in 1990 and became the superintendent in 1999. She moved to the Oxford district in 2009. She also served on the governing board of the American Association of School Administrators and was named the 2007 Mississippi Superintendent of the Year.
