Eugenie C. Scott, the executive director of the National Center for Science Education, has been awarded the Public Welfare Medal from the National Academy of Sciences. In a ceremony on April 25, Ms. Scott accepted the medal on behalf of her organization, which she described as a small, underfunded, understaffed, nonprofit laboring to defend the teaching of evolution.
