New state regulations have been approved to prohibit people from sitting on more than one Connecticut charter school board or helping run companies that manage their schools.
The regulations-review committee of the legislature last week approved the state education department’s policy changes, which reflect state auditors’ concerns that sharing board members could affect the schools’ independence.
About 6,000 students attend the 18 charter schools, which are considered public but operate with public and private money. They are governed by charter school boards that hire management companies for day-to-day operations.
