This is a strange one: An employee of a technical school in Arizona has alleged that the school discriminates against students with disabilities. So in return, the school won’t enroll any students with disabilities until the issue is decided.
From the Arizona Republic story:
[East Valley Institute of Technology] officials claim the students can’t register because of a discrimination complaint filed by a Gilbert Public Schools liaison for the district’s special-education students.
The employee, Glenna Hastings, alleges EVIT has been hostile to Gilbert’s special-needs students and has failed to fulfill their education plans. Those plans are federal documents that prescribe career or technical courses at EVIT....
EVIT spokeswoman Lynn Strang said the institute’s attorney “has advised us not to register students until a ruling is established.”
Gilbert families wonder why EVIT isn’t separating the civil-rights case from their children’s registration.
I’m wondering, as well.
