To the Editor:

Regarding “Foreign Flags in Classroom Lead to Teacher’s Removal,” (Sept. 6, 2006):

Let me get this straight. Eric Hamlin, admittedly new to the field of teaching, placed Chinese and Mexican flags in his Colorado classroom. This was done in ignorance of state regulations, which declare this is a no-no. When a school administrator informed him of the law, Mr. Hamlin was adamant and refused to remove the flags, based on some unexplained “principle.”

He was cited for insubordination, and is now receiving full pay while not working, as the district looks for a new job for him.

Wow! I don’t know what Mr. Hamlin did before becoming enamored of flags, but he sure knows how to use the system.
