U.S. District Judge G. Thomas Porteus made permanent Aug. 3 an order he had issued in June that barred the New Orleans school board from firing Superintendent Anthony S. Amato. Board members had refused to remove a clause from Mr. Amato’s contract that allows the board to terminate his employment without cause.
