Several states have named new education leaders in recent weeks. They are:

RICHARD CORCORAN, a former speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. (Florida)

PENDER MAKIN, a former state principal of the year and an assistant schools superintendent in Brunswick, Maine. (Maine) Her appointment requires legislative approval.

Deborah Delisle

MARY CATHRYN RICKER, the executive vice president of the American Federation of Teachers and a former president of the St. Paul Minn., teachers’ union. (Minnesota)

CAROLYN STANFORD TAYLOR, the assistant state superintendent in Wisconsin. (Wisconsin)

Other Transitions

Susana Cordova

DEBORAH DELISLE has resigned as the CEO and executive director of ASCD. She previously served as an assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Education.

SUSANA CORDOVA, the deputy schools superintendent in Denver, has been chosen to lead the district. She attended Denver’s public schools and started her career there as a teacher.
