Social Studies Marking Guidelines for Grades 9-12

‘A’

  • Achieves an average of 90 or more on teacher-made tests.
  • Successfully completes three reports of excellent quality

  • Demonstrates excellent writing skills in teacher-made tests, research papers, homework, and special projects.
  • Consistently participates in classroom discussion and demonstrates excellent
    analytical skills.
  • Responds to teacher questioning in an excellent manner.
  • Completes excellent-quality homework assignments on the skills.

‘B’

  • Achieves an average of 80-89 on teacher-made tests.
  • Successfully completes two reports of good quality.
  • Demonstrates good writing skills in teacher-made tests, research papers, homework, and special projects.
  • Generally participates in classroom discussion and demonstrates good
    analytical skills.
  • Responds to teacher questioning in an accurate manner.
  • Completes good-quality homework assignments on time.

‘C’

  • Achieves an average of 75-79 on teacher-made tests.
  • Successfully completes one report of average quality.
  • Demonstrates average writing skills in teacher-made tests, research papers, homework, and special projects.
  • Occasionally participates in classroom discussion and demonstrates average analytical skills.
  • Responds to teacher questioning in an average manner.
  • Completes average-quality homework assignments on time.

‘D’

  • Achieves an average of 70-74 on teacher-made tests.
  • Successfully completes one report of adequate quality
  • Demonstrates adequate writing skills in teacher-made tests, research papers, homework, and special projects.
  • Seldom participates in classroom discussion and demonstrates adequate analytical skills.
  • Responds to teacher questioning in an inconsistent manner
  • Completes adequate-quality homework assignments on time.

‘E’ or ‘F’

  • Achieves an average of 60-69 (E) or 0-59 (F) on teacher-made tests.
  • Does not complete one report.
  • Demonstrates poor writing skills in teacher-made tests, research papers, homework, and special projects.
  • Never participates in classroom discussion.
  • Responds to teacher questioning in poor fashion.
  • Fails to complete homework assignments or turns in homework assignments late.
