Richard L. Allington is the new president of the International Reading Association. He began his one-year term last month.
Mr. Allington, 58, served on the IRA’s board of directors from 1995 to 1998. He is a professor of education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and was the president of the National Reading Conference, based in Oak Creek, Wis., for the 1995-96 school year.
The Newark, Del.-based IRA has 85,000 members in more than 100 countries.
