Judith D. Singer

Neil L. Rudenstine, the president of Harvard University, has appointed Judith D. Singer and John B. Willett to jointly fill the post of acting dean of the university’s graduate school of education in Cambridge, Mass. Jerome T. Murphy, 62, stepped down last month after nine years as dean.

Before accepting their appointments, Ms. Singer, 45, and Mr. Willett, 53, served jointly as the education school’s academic dean, a position they will continue to hold.

David S. Chernow

David S. Chernow has been named the president and chief executive officer of Junior Achievement, a nonprofit, volunteer organization based in Colorado Springs, Colo., that educates young people about business, economics, and the free enterprise system.

Mr. Chernow, 44, replaces James B. Hayes, 63, who retired in June.

Before taking his new job, Mr. Chernow was the president of the Physicians Services Group at U.S. Oncology in Houston.

Christine D. Brooks and Leslie A. Sanchez were selected last month by U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige to serve in two education- related roles.

Ms. Brooks, 59, was picked to serve as the director of the Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Center in the Department of Education.

Ms. Sanchez, 32, a former deputy press secretary for the Republican National Committee’s campaign efforts in 2000, was chosen to serve as the executive director of the White House Initiative on Hispanic Education.
