Corine A. Hadley

Corine A. Hadley has been elected the president of the National Association of State Boards of Education for the 2001-02 term, beginning next month. Ms. Hadley, 64, is the president of the Iowa state board of education. Alexandria, Va.-based NASBE represents state and territorial boards of education.

Rick S. Cross

The commissioner of the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, Rick S. Cross, 55, is resigning at the end of the month to take a job as the superintendent of the Northport Public School in Northport, Mich. The school serves 296 K-12 students.

Paul Krohne has been selected as the new executive director of the South Carolina School Boards Association. Mr. Krohne, 53, was an executive director of the New Hampshire School Boards Association and, most recently, an adjunct professor at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. The South Carolina group is a nonprofit organization that provides services to all 86 local school boards in the state. Mr. Krohne will assume his new job in January.

Jane Hammond

Jane Hammond, the superintendent of the 87,832-student Jefferson County, Colo., school system, was named the Colorado Superintendent of the Year by her peers last month. Ms. Hammond, 52, who helped her district recover from the Columbine High School shootings last year, was selected by past recipients of the Colorado award. She will represent her state in the American Association of School Administrators’ national selection for Superintendent of the Year.
