Harvard University’s graduate school of education has chosen two researchers for the position of academic dean. Judith Singer and John Willett will share the post, overseeing the school’s student academic life and professional development of its faculty. Ms. Singer, 44, and Mr. Willett, 51, piloted a joint tenure process at the school in 1993 and have won honors for their research. They have co-written two books and dozens of articles on statistical methodology, research design, and education policy.

Scholastic Inc. has announced the appointment of Anne Kenney to the newly created position of director for multicultural marketing. With experience in publishing and diversity marketing, Ms. Kenney, 46, will work with teachers, children, and parents of all cultural backgrounds to develop products and services. Based in New York City, Scholastic is a leading publisher of educational materials for school and home use.
The Oregon Department of Education has picked Nancy Heiligman to direct its division of school finance, data, and analysis. Ms. Heiligman, 47, came to the education department in 1997 to build a database about the state’s schools. In her new post, Ms. Heiligman will supervise the database initiative, take over responsibility for school finance, and coordinate Oregon’s quality education model.
Phi Delta Kappa International has installed Richard L. Kolowski as the president of the 110,000-member professional society for educators. Mr. Kolowski, 55, is the principal of Millard West High School in Omaha, Neb. Phi Delta Kappa, founded in 1906 and based in Bloomington, Ind., supports programs in education leadership, service, and research.
