Corrected: The headquarters of the Academy for Educational Development is based in Washington.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children has hired Denise M. Scott to serve as the director of accreditation for the Washington-based organization.

She will lead the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, which handles the accreditation of child-development programs. Ms. Scott, 42, previously was the director of early-childhood development for the Miami Valley Child Development Centers in Dayton, Ohio.

Anne Kim is the new director of the Working Families Project at the Progressive Policy Institute in Washington. Ms. Kim, 29, will focus on welfare reform, poverty, and the concerns of working families. She was previously a lawyer in private practice. The institute, which promotes innovation in governmental policy, is the think tank of the Democratic Leadership Council.

Diane Rigden

The Council for Basic Education, a Washington-based nonprofit organization that advocates high academic standards for all students, has promoted two staff members to vice presidents. Diana Rigden serves as the director of a project to design teacher education programs that can help new teachers prepare students to reach high standards.

Carol Stoel

Carol Stoel is the director of the Schools Around the World program, which gives teachers the chance to reflect upon their teaching practice by examining student work.

M. Kathryn Dienz has been named the chief financial officer of Performance Learning Systems, an Emerson, N.J.-based company that provides educational products and services to educators and businesses. Ms. Dienz, 39, will oversee the administration, financial, and human-resources departments.
