Thank you for “Going to the Dogs” [May/June]. The Iditarod is one of the many fantastic themes that can be used to create standards-based lessons and engage students in real-life learning. Twice a year, the Iditarod education committee sponsors professional development conferences in Alaska to enhance an educator’s ability to reach and teach. And each year, the Iditarod selects a teacher to maintain an educational portion of its Web site. This “teacher on the trail” follows the race aboard an Iditarod Air Force bush plane.
Thanks again for the article. Next time, I would love to see a lengthy piece on this online learning adventure!
