Staying the Course

While I appreciate your mention of my book, Man Overboard: Confessions of a Novice Math Teacher in the Bronx, in Teacher, [Book Reviews, October] I take exception to the comment by the reviewer that I took a “cut-and-run” escape from the New York City public school system after my first year. It’s clear at the end of the book that, in an upbeat mood, I accepted an even more challenging position at a new Gates Foundation-sponsored school in the Bronx for failed students. My new position didn’t deserve the reviewer’s epithet now reserved by politicians for quitters.
