Spurred by growing concerns among parents, school officials, and law-enforcement officers about online privacy and safety issues for children and teenagers, the company that runs the MySpace.com social-networking site has hired a chief security officer to address those concerns. (“Social-Networking Web Sites Pose Growing Challenge for Educators,” Feb. 15, 2006.)

Hemanshu Nigam will join Fox Interactive Media, the parent company of MySpace.com, on May 1. In his role, he will oversee safety, education, privacy programs, and law-enforcement affairs.

Mr. Nigam is currently the director of consumer-security outreach and child-safe computing for the Microsoft Corp. Prior to working at Microsoft, he served as a trial lawyer for the U.S. Department of Justice.
