New York Gov. David Paterson says the state is willing to pay for college for the children and other dependents of the 50 people killed when a commuter plane crashed near Buffalo.
Mr. Paterson announced the Flight 3407 memorial scholarship program last week at the State University of New York at Buffalo, which had ties to 11 people on the Feb. 12 New Jersey-to-Buffalo Continental flight.
The fund would pay for four years of tuition, room and board, and supplies at a New York public college, or provide the equivalent amount—about $18,400 a year—for a private in-state college education. The money would come from the State University of New York budget.
