Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican, has appointed a 30-year veteran of the banking industry to Mississippi’s state board of education. Howell “Hal” N. Gage is the chairman of Riverhill Bank in Vicksburg. If confirmed by the state Senate, he will serve through June 2007.
