The committees, Gov. Ehrlich announced Sept. 27 at an event launch ing the effort, will focus on teacher and principal accountability, linking schools and communities, best practices in education, and early childhood programs.

“It is the charge of this commission to identify best practices that will allow Maryland schools to output Maryland’s best and brightest,” the Republican governor said in a statement.

Robert J. Kemmery, the former executive director of the Baltimore County public schools, will serve as the executive director of the commission, whose members were sworn in Sept. 27.

A complete report is expected by Sept. 1, 2005.
