Junk-Food Bill Vetoed

Gov. M. Jodi Rell of Connecticut on June 14 vetoed a bill that would have restricted the sale of junk food and sodas in elementary, middle, and high schools and mandated at least 20 minutes of recess in elementary schools. The governor, a Republican, said the bill would have usurped “the long-standing independence of our local school officials.”
