Jill Chaifetz who ran an education-advocacy and legal-services organization that focuses on education in New York City, died Feb. 2 of ovarian cancer. She was 41.
As the executive director of Advocates for Children of New York, Ms. Chaifetz wrote policy reports and filed litigation on behalf of students in special education and those seeking to re-enter schools after incarceration. Her organization also filed three lawsuits alleging that some high school students were being “pushed out” instead of being allowed to finish their studies; all three cases were settled.
