A Glenview, Ill., teacher who was a defendant in a wrongful-death lawsuit involving a 12-year-old who choked to death on marshmallows has resigned from a new job as the principal of an elementary school in another district. After meeting with parents, Kevin Dorken submitted his resignation as the head of Greeley Elementary School last month to the superintendent of the Winnetka public schools. The Glenview Elementary district settled the lawsuit for $2 million, with no admission of wrongdoing, on June 2. ("$2 Million Settlement Reached in Death of Student,” June 15, 2005.)
