A summary of the survey, “Americans on High Schools: ‘In Need of Improvement!’,” is available from the Alliance for Excellent Education.
The Alliance for Excellent Education—a Washington-based policy and research organization—surveyed 1,200 adults this month and found that 32 percent said they believed the quality of public high school education had declined nationwide. Among other findings, 61 percent said that high schools were not equipped to meet the needs of struggling students, and 65 percent said that a public high school diploma did not prepare graduates for the workforce.
