A new analysis of public-school revenues by the Bureau of the Census indicates that, contrary to reports by the Education Department, local governments continue to provide a greater share of funding for precollegiate education than do the states.

According to the Census Bureau study, local governments provided 47.6 percent of public-school revenues in 1984-85, compared with 46.3 percent from state sources.
