Ms. Piñón won the award, given by Toyota and the National Center on Family Literacy, for her program, the All-Aboard Family Literacy Program. The program gives parents in Ms. Piñón’s community the skills they need to ensure their children acquire literacy skills. Partnerships with area organizations have improved the program’s reach and capacity.
As a prize, the All-Aboard Family Literacy Program, which receives most of its funding from The Children’s Trust, will receive $7,500. Additionally, Ms. Piñón was featured on an electronic billboard in Times Square.
