Deborah A. Gist is the new state education officer for the District of Columbia. She had been the interim officer since June of last year.
As head of the state education office for the nation’s capital, Ms. Gist, 39, is in charge of improving the equivalent of state-level educational services and opportunities for residents of Washington through research, policy, and programs.
Ms. Gist’s previous job was executive director of Serve DC, the District of Columbia government’s commission on national and community service.
