David A. Sanchez has become the president of the 340,000-member California Teachers Association, based in Burlingame, Calif. Mr. Sanchez, 54, who was most recently the vice president of the union, is a teacher at Ontiveros Elementary Schoolin Santa Barbara County. During his two-year term as president, Mr. Sanchez will take a leave of absence from his teaching job.
