An article in the Sept. 6, 2006, issue of Education Week (“Teachers Tiptoe Into Delicate Topics of 9/11 and Iraq”) on instructional materials related to terrorism incorrectly stated where Brian Fenderson teaches. Cascade High School is in Turner, Ore.

A news brief in the Aug. 30 issue (“Teacher-Quality Council to Revise Ed. School Reviews”) mischaracterized a new rating given by the National Council on Teacher Quality to a teacher education program it reviewed in a recent report. Temple University asked that its latest syllabuses for required reading courses be evaluated after its older materials received a failing grade, meaning it did not demonstrate that teacher-candidates were being taught about reading research. The council has also offered to conduct new evaluations for other colleges that have updated their syllabuses, and at least one program has made such a request, according to NCTQ President Kate Walsh. Only one school has been rescored from the original study.

A version of this article appeared in the September 20, 2006 edition of Education Week
