A Commentary on accountability reporting in the March 3, 2004, issue of Education Week (“Accountability-Reporting Hurdles”) erroneously implied that officials of the Atlanta Public Schools had knowingly misreported school data. Following media reports, the Georgia Department of Education found last year that the district had not intentionally distorted or misrepresented any data on disciplinary incidents, and no action was taken against the district. No other district data have been questioned.
One sentence in an article on school accountability in the March 10 issue (“Accountability Conflicts Vex Schools”) gave the wrong states in which two schools are located. Gove Elementary School is in Belle Glade, Fla., and John Glenn Middle School is in Indio, Calif.
Another story in the March 10 issue (“Hispanic Leader’s Dismissal Roils N.J. District”) incorrectly stated that Annette D. Knox was the first African-American superintendent of the Camden, N.J., schools. She is the district’s first female African-American superintendent.
