A story about student-retention policies in the Oct. 9, 2002, print edition of Education Week (“More Chicago Pupils Flunk Grade,” Oct. 9, 2002.) should have said that 2002 was the second year of Baltimore’s districtwide retention policy. In addition, district high school students must attend summer school only if they lack credits.
An article in the Oct. 16 issue (“Research: In the Trenches,” Oct. 16, 2002.) on Harvard University professor Richard J. Murnane’s work in the Boston public school system gave an incorrect last name for Kristan B. Singleton and misidentified Mr. Singleton’s former employer, Andersen Consulting.
