“Graduation and Dropout Trends in Chicago: A Look at Cohorts of Students From 1991 to 2004" is available online from the Consortium on Chicago School Research.

Dropout rates for students in the Chicago public school system are higher than official district estimates, concludes a study by the Consortium on Chicago School Research, located at the University of Chicago.

Fifty-four percent of students in the 434,000-student district who were 13 years old in 1998 had graduated by age 19 in 2004, according to the report. The district, on the other hand, estimates its graduation rate to be 70 percent, based on a statistical formula established by Illinois’ state board of education.
