Gang Prevention

The Senate Juvenile Justice Subcommittee held a hearing last week on gang intervention and prevention strategies included in pending crime legislation.

The Education Department

Student-Aid Eligibility Proposed Rules

The Education Department has issued proposed regulations implementing changes made in the Higher Education Act in 1992 and 1993, which tightened eligibility requirements for institutional participation in student-aid programs. The notice was published in the Feb. 10 Federal Register; comments are due March 14.

Corporation for National and Community Service Summer of Service

The Corporation for National and Community Service published in the Feb. 2 Federal Register guidelines for the Summer of Service, which will provide $3 million to support national- and community-service projects designed to alleviate crime and violence. Applications are due March 14.
