In the Education Department
The Education Department last week published amended rules for the Chapter 1 migrant-education program. The rules, which appear in the May 30 Federal Register, correct errors and replace misleading language in the original regulations, which were published Oct. 23, 1989.
Final regulations for the governmentwide drug-free-workplace initiative were published in the May 25 Federal Register. The rules include numerous clarifications to interim rules published in January 1989, as well as a separate Education Department notice clarifying how the rules apply to student-aid programs.
Request for Proposals
The Education Department is now accepting applications to operate 10 regional educational-research laboratories, including a new lab for the Pacific Basin. Proposals must be submitted by June 18, according to a notice in the May 30 Federal Register.
