Creating Schools for All Our Students: What 12 Schools Have To Say, (The Council for Exceptional Children, Dept. K50170, 1920 Association Dr., Reston, Va. 22091; 60 pp; $18.50 plus $2.50 shipping, paper). Findings from teams of educators and parents brought together in the recent Working Forum on Inclusive Schools, an effort that involved 10 major educational organizations.

Kwanzaa and Me: A Teacher’s Story, by Vivian Gussin Paley (Harvard University Press, 79 Garden St., Cambridge, Mass. 02138; 140 pp.; $18 cloth). An important new book on the successes and failures of integrated education by the author of White Teacher and You Can’t Say You Can’t Play. Ms. Paley, a kindergarten teacher at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, traveled the country to provide a range of perspectives on the multicultural classroom and those who participate in it.

Life and Loss: A Guide To Help Grieving Children, by Linda Goldman (Taylor & Francis, 1900 Frost Rd., Suite 101, Bristol, Pa. 19007-1598; 154 pp; $19.95 paper). A guide by a former counselor and kindergarten, 1st-grade, and 2nd-grade teacher on “helping children face some of life’s most difficult issues"--from abuse to divorce to death and illness--by seeing the losses through the child’s eyes.

No Easy Answers: The Learning Disabled Child at Home and at School, by Sally L. Smith (Bantam Books, 1540 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10036; 416 pp; $9.95 paper.). Revised and updated edition of a classic handbook by the director of The Lab School of Washington (who was herself formerly labeled learning disabled), giving implications of the Individuals with Disabilities Act.

School Interventions for Children of Alcoholics, by Bonnie K. Nastasi & Denise M. DeZolt (The Guilford Press, 72 Spring St., New York, N.Y. 10012; 275 pp; $25 cloth). Focusing on preventive intervention, this guidebook for school professionals includes a sample curriculum and an array of sample resource materials.

Teaching Diverse Populations: Formulating a Knowledge Base, ed. by Etta R. Hollins, Joyce E. King, & Warren C. Hayman (State University of New York Press, State University Plaza, Albany, N.Y.; 289 pp; $49.50 cloth; $19.95 paper). Thirteen essays presenting the current knowledge about teaching culturally diverse populations.
